Old Goats repeat as champs in 5th annual Ben & Jerry's 4xMile, finish 4th overall and 3rd in age group at Mill City Relays

It was a busy weekend for a few goats who spent the weekend carrying on a couple traditions. On Saturday night, Austin, Dave, Matt Robasco, Justin, Kyle Morrison, Kyle Gerlach and Dan Mortimer flocked to the icy and snow covered WPI track in 18 degree weather to meet up with some undergrads to eat some ice cream and run some miles. For those who have never watched it is truly a sight to behold. The rules of the competition are fairly simple, relay teams consist of four runners, each of whom eats a pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream and proceeds to run a mile as quickly as possible. The team of Kyle Gerlach, Dan Mortimer, Dave and Austin claimed the gold (for the second year in a row) in a time of 28:31, and the team of Kyle Morrison, Justin and a couple Wellesley ladies had a great showing as well running 37:36. There were six teams total and everyone killed it in this fun event! We appreciate all the support from the runners and spectators alike, and look forward to getting even more people for next year!

Sunday, the smaller crew of Kyle Gerlach, Justin Trott, Matt Rabasco, Austin and Dave traveled north to Nashua, NH to compete in the Mill City Relays. A lot of you have probably never heard of them, but this was the 36th year of competition for this legendary race tradition. This exclusive race is run by a select 19 clubs in mostly New Hampshire and Northeast Mass, so the goats partnered with the Gate City Striders who are the hosts and among the founders of the race. This partnership was brokered by Kyle Gerlach, who ran with the striders before the founding of OGTC, and was actually competing in his 5th Mill Cities Relay. Austin joined Kyle last year when they, Lucas Roy, Ryan Moran and Dan Mortimer took 2nd place at the race. This year when the goats showed up temperatures were single digits. They checked in, dropped Matt at the starting line and drove to the next exchange to drop Dave off. When Matt arrived, his beard was coated in ice but his fire time over 5.4mi got the goats off to a great start. Dave ran the 4.7mi second leg and handed off to Justin in 6th place. Justin put on his speed shoes for his 2.5mi sprint and handed of to Austin in 5th. Austin demolished the 9.4mi leg and handed off to Kyle in 4th place. Kyle powered home to a 4th place finish in a time of 2:32:22. At the awards ceremony the team collected the 3rd place men's open division prize: a Brick! (as is the traditional prize for the relay) It can be viewed in all it's glory in the OGTC Headquarters showcase. Gate City Striders are big fans of the partnership and would love to see even more goats next year (perhaps even some brave ladygoats!)
